Alexandria K. Montanio, Counsel
Alex is the firm’s Director of Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR), a position she advocated to create in August 2019. In this role, she coordinates and builds upon the firm's existing diversity, equity, inclusion, community engagement and sustainability efforts. She also leverages her combined experience developing the firm’s CSR program and her legal background to assist business leaders in crafting their own policies and programs that are responsive to the dynamic needs of today’s diverse workforce. This includes delivering training sessions on topics including mitigating implicit bias, responding to microaggressions, and supporting caregivers and other groups within the workplace.
Alex has spoken and counseled clients on numerous CSR issues, including:
- Creating an Inclusive Workplace: Reducing Bias and Microaggressions
- Beyond the Policies and Handbook: How To Make Your Workplace Inclusive for Caregivers
Together with Diversity Equity and Inclusion, Community Engagement and Green Team committee members representing all segments of the firm, Alex helps:
- Develop and sustain community partnerships;
- Coordinate programming for the firm’s affinity groups;
- Host the quarterly Diversity, Equity & Inclusion Book Club meetings;
- Champion pro bono and other volunteer opportunities for all firm personnel; and
- Invite various speakers to the firm to broaden our knowledge base.
Alex represents the firm in a variety of philanthropic groups, including the Maryland Francis King Carey School of Law Diversity Scholars Program, the Law Firm Sustainability Network and Maryland Volunteer Lawyers Service. She has also served as the Head Coach of the Maryland Law Black Law Student Association Alternative Dispute Resolution team since 2016, a competition team that the firm sponsors.
Alex is also Counsel in the firm's Health Care and EMERGE practice groups where she analyzes national and local health care laws and trends and their impact on entities in the health care field, including providers, physician groups and hospitals. She provides Maryland-based insight for a range of clients from national and regional health care entities to individual health care providers forming and growing new practices and companies. Alex has assisted health care companies in navigating new business models, including participating in the Maryland Primary Care Program and launching mobile health care related businesses. Additionally, Alex helps clients proactively navigate compliance issues and manage compliance related disclosures or complaints. She also has experience helping clients navigate every stage of the litigation process in state and federal courts and negotiating disputes.
In the video series titled “Up Close and Personal,” Alex shares what her role as the firm's CSR Director entails, why she enjoys it and her goals for the position.
