Mandatory Fraud Education
Did you know that by January 1, 2007, hospitals and other entities that receive at least $5 million in Medicaid payments, called Medical Assistance payments in Maryland, must educate their employees and contractors about fraud and abuse reporting and whistleblower protection? Procedures on how employees and contractors may report suspected problems, and how the provider will process these claims must also be explained and implemented. The hospital or entity must also describe these fraud and abuse and whistleblower laws and procedures in its employee handbook.
